Short Game TipsPutting is one of the most overlooked things golfers forget to practice. Putting is also where more than half of your strokes take place on the golf course. The key to becoming a better putter is to practice drills on the greens instead of just dropping a few balls and hitting putts like you normally due. Here are some great drills to practice to improve your putting.
Drill 1 Start at 3 feet away from the hole and take four balls. Now place the balls at 12,3,6, and 9 like on a face of a clock. Now see how many times you can go around the clock without missing a putt. If you make all four of them replace the balls and continue until you miss. If this is to easy then back up to six feet away and try again.
Drill 2 Start at 25-30 feet away from the hole. Now take 10 balls and start putting with your eyes closed. Your goal is to see if you know whether or not you got the speed right by asking yourself if you hit the putt long or short. Then open your eyes and see if you guessed right. Sometimes you my say perfect if you think the ball is going to go in the hole. This is a great drill to get the speed of the greens and to learn to trust your stroke.
Drill 3 Try putting with your right hand only. This is a great drill to teach to control the movement of the putter but it will also help you with feel. Do this exercise from whatever distance you prefer.
Use these drills and watch yourself become a better putter. Remember quality practice not quantity.
